2nd Grade Teachers

Your Second Grade student is busy learning the new math series called Bridges.  We use a Number Corner, teach a lesson and assign homework that all relate to each other!  Your student should be coming home talking about odd and even numbers, months of the year, days of the week, minutes in an hour, hours in a day and adding and subtracting! This was all discussed in the previous units.  Please work with your child at home practicing any kind of math; measuring while you cook, timing recipes, and adding the cost of groceries while shopping.  All of these are skills they need!

In Reading, we are focusing on Realistic Fiction stories.  The students are learning how to ask questions while they are reading their book.  They should be reading 20 minutes per night, and working on spelling or sight words.  Please read with your child every night.  It is very important, and great time spent together! We are also learning how to write stories. Ask your child to write a short story of their day or week!  You may be surprised at their skills! We thank you for helping your child read, and complete their homework each night.   It is so important that we all work together to help your child succeed.
